Good evening,
Just wanted to take a moment and update you all on today's activities. Today was much more challenging for all the campers like I said it would be last night. Not sure if any of the kids expressed that right away when getting picked up, but every camper gave great effort today. The coaches and myself witnessed another great day in terms of kids being competitive and showing good sportsmanship. The staff really is doing a great job keeping the kids, groups, drills and games moving right along.
We started the morning off dividing the two groups into each gym. The younger group spent about 2 hours practicing the fundamentals of the game with Coach Mike Lee and Coach Dan Place. They did a lot of agility and foot work with the kids during the 2 hour frame. The younger group played shooting and dribbling competition contest and also 3 vs. 3 while the older kids took break for lunch. When the younger kids took lunch the older kids played their weekly tournament game. There are 4 teams and by the end of the camp we will have a championship game for the rest of the campers to watch (for about 15 minutes).
After both lunches, each group went back to their separate gyms and continued working on individual offensive skill moves and ball handling drills. The camp concluded today with 30 minutes of shooting and more ball handling as well as using the agility ladder again. The kids worked really really hard today and it appeared they enjoyed the competition. There were a few kids who got a little discouraged about not being able to do some of the exercises but they gave it their all and I was really happy to see that no one just quit. So my hats off to the youngsters who faced a little adversity and over came it.
Tomorrow's camp will be close to the same agenda; agility and foot speed exercises, shooting and dribbling competitions, team games, and more skill work with the ball. Tomorrow will have another speaker. Hopefully that period of time will be a nice chance for the kids to catch a break.
And for the drop off and pick up times. You guys are all on time which makes the day start off on the right foot. Just want to mention and thank you for keeping me informed during any late arrival or early release.
See you tomorrow,
- Tim
